Course Title: Effective Radon Measurement Techniques

Course Description: Introductory Course No previous experience with radon testing methods is needed. Good communication skills are important. Experience with indoor air quality and building ventilation methods will be helpful, but not required. This course is the prerequisite for the radon mitigation course. Course Objectives Become familiar with the methods for measuring radon gas including E-PERM monitors and continuous monitors. Be aware of the mechanics of radon entry into buildings. Master the radon measurement protocols needed to produce valid results according to Canadian guidelines. Know the requirements for closed house conditions. Understand the radioactive decay chain from uranium that is the source of radon gas and its radioactive decay products. Review the health effects of radon gas exposure, and the need for mitigating buildings with high levels of radon gas. Become familiar with the basic radon reduction techniques used by mitigation contractors in Canada.

Course Description: 2 to 3 day classroom course covering the science of radon and radioactivity, measurement protocols and instrument selection based on the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP). The course covers the physics of radon and its decay products, health effects, transport mechanisms, radon measurement protocols, the characteristics and usage or measurement devices, quality control and quality assurance along with an overview of the different mitigation techniques.

Course Description: Description du cours : Ce cours de 3.5 jours couvre la conception et l’installation des systèmes résidentiels d’atténuation du radon. Le contenu du cours est basé sur la certification du programme national de compétence sur le radon canadien (PNCR-C). Le cours réuni des enseignements théoriques en classe, ainsi que des exercices pratiques sur le terrain. Ce cours examine les différentes techniques d’atténuation du radon, les mécanismes de transport du radon, la théorie de la dépressurisation active du sol (DAS), les diagnostiques, la conception et l’installation, d’autres méthodes qui décourage l’entrée du radon, le radon dans l’eau, la santé et sécurité des employés et les techniques de construction neuve qui résiste à l’entrée du radon.
Course Description: 3-1/2 day classroom course covering the design and installation of residential radon mitigation systems. Course content is based on the requirements for the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP) certification. The course combines both classroom teachings and field exercises. This course examines the different techniques for radon mitigation, understanding radon transport mechanisms, active soil depressurization (ASD) theory, diagnostics, design and installation along with other methods that discourage radon entry, radon in water, worker health & safety and radon resistant new construction.
